The Blue Mountains in Jamaica are a vast mountain range in the eastern part of the island, stretching approximately 30 miles from Stony Hill near Kingston to the Caribbean Sea. The range's highest point is Blue Mountain Peak, which rises to 7,402 feet, making it the tallest peak in Jamaica. The Blue Mountains are known for their rich vegetation, including tree ferns, and receive significant rainfall, particularly on the slopes facing the trade winds, which contributes to soil erosion and a network of streams. The area is famous for its coffee, which is among the most expensive in the world and primarily exported to Japan. The Blue Mountains, along with the John Crow Mountains, form the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for its biodiversity and historical significance as a refuge for escaping Taino enslaved people and Maroons. The park's designation highlights both its natural beauty and cultural heritage.
